I am a big fan of Christmas and all things festive, I love the build up, the extra socialising and the sparkly trees and decorations and even the Christmas music in the shops (I’ll never tire of Wham’s Last Christmas as long as I live!) but every year I start off so well and try and remember that all the extra calories I’m eating and the extra wine that I’m drinking isn’t going to make a difference to my waistline or my pocket but I know that’s not true.

This year I’ve vowed to do things a little differently and to have a healthier approach and attitude towards the Christmas festivities. I am a true believer in the old saying ‘everything in moderation’ and have decided to employ that as the basis of all that I do this year. I’m not going to eat and drink as much as I can just because its Christmas (in previous years I have stuffed myself with so much food on Christmas Day that I have felt physically ill for hours afterwards not to mention piling on the extra pounds!) so that’s all in the ghost of Christmas Past! I am looking to the ghost of Christmas Future to guide me and to show me that I can make a few little changes to my lifestyle now which will benefit me come Christmas Day and beyond.

My main aim is to be fitter and healthier in the run up to Christmas so that it becomes a way of life and I don’t lose sight of all my hard work and over-indulge during the holidays because there really isn’t any need. So one if the ways I’ve made a change is to boost my exercise routine and I am now walking to work. I started walking the 2 miles to work and back a few weeks ago and started off by just doing it once a week then upped it gradually to two days and then three and now I am walking every day, even in the rain which doesn’t really bother me. But I have a secret weapon.

In a bid to tone up as well as get fitter through exercise I have bought myself a pair of FitFlop boots which are the toning and firming kind that work your bum and leg muscles to get them working harder and this is what gives the toned effect. The two mile walk to and from work is doing my legs and bum the world of good (not to mention my fitness levels) so I am determined to keep up the good work and have promised myself a new dress in the Christmas sales if I can be sensible this Christmas. I have also vowed to keep the walking going after Christmas too because I am feeling so much better and can tell that it’s doing me the world of good. I have already decided that when the nice weather arrives next year I’m going to walk to work in the FitFlop Boots to carry on toning and firming up my legs and bum with every step.
